The discovery of "Hamrat al-A'laja" Hill in Anbar

    The General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage in Anbar announced today, Thursday, the discovery of a new archaeological site known as “Hamrat al-A’laja” Hill. The authority indicated that the new site reveals ancient and unknown civilizations.

    Anbar Antiquities and Heritage Inspector Ammar Ali Hamdi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Based on the directives of the head of the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage, Ali Obaid Shalgam, and direct follow-up by the Anbar Antiquities and Heritage Inspector, the antiquities monitoring team was able to reach a new archaeological site known as "Hamrat Al-A'laja" hill in the depths of the Anbar desert."

    He added, "This site represents an important discovery, as it has been documented accurately using modern maps and aerial photographs," noting that "experts indicate that the site may contain traces of an ancient civilization that existed in the region, which opens the way for new archaeological discoveries that enhance our understanding of the region's history."

    Hamdi explained that "the importance of this discovery comes within the framework of the efforts made by the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage to explore historical sites hidden deep in the desert, which may reveal civilizations that were unknown until now."
