President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid emphasized on Saturday that the Zionist aggression against Lebanon represents a serious escalation that jeopardizes security and stability in the region. He also called on the international community to uphold its legal responsibilities to halt the war and prevent massacres against the civilians.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the President condemned "in the strongest terms the aggression against our brother Lebanon, which has resulted in the martyrdom and injury of hundreds of citizens. This constitutes a grave development that poses a real threat to the security and stability of the region."
He reiterated Iraq's solidarity with its brothers in Lebanon and Palestine, urging for "full solidarity with the two brotherly peoples."
The President reiterated his call for the international community to "assume its legal and moral responsibilities and to mobilize prompt and effective measures aimed at halting the conflict and preventing the perpetration of atrocities against civilians."
He concluded by saying, "Mercy for the martyrs and a speedy recovery for the injured and wounded."
