Seven drug traffickers in Babil and Diwaniyah were overthrown, according to a Thursday announcement from the General Directorate of Intelligence and Security.
In a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the directorate stated that "five dealers and promoters of narcotic substances in Diwaniyah province were overthrown by the detachments of the Diwaniyah Intelligence and Security Directorate with the guidance and supervision of Defense Minister Thabet Abbasi and with careful field follow-up, against whom arrest warrants were issued in accordance with the provisions of Article (28) drugs," adding that "legal measures have been taken against them and referred to the judiciary."
In the same context, "By setting up a tight ambush, which resulted in their arrest red handed, the detachments of the Directorate of Intelligence and Security of Babil were able to arrest two drug traffickers, who are foreigners."
"They were seized in possession of various narcotic pills and a quantity of crystal meth ," the statement continued. "The defendants were turned over to the appropriate authorities after the seizures were confiscated."
