Al-Sudani meets the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs

    Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani met the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs Ambassador Roger Carstens, in New York on Monday evening (Baghdad time), on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
     
    Media Office of the Prime Minister said in an official statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency,”The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of working on the issue of hostages in its humanitarian aspects, noting that Iraq has always been making efforts to uncover their fates, as well as showing full solidarity with their families.”
     
    The Prime Minister reiterated,” the commitment of Iraq to cooperate and work with the governments of neighboring countries to exchange necessary information related to the hostages and to intensify the search for those still missing, particularly the Yazidi women, especially with the Syrian and Turkish sides, he directed the Iraqi security forces to prioritize these issues as a humanitarian obligation.”
     
    For his part, Ambassador Carstens expressed,”his appreciation for Iraq's efforts in implementing human rights standards and incorporating them into the government program, as well as following up on cases of enforced disappearances and collaborating with relevant countries to uncover the fates of their citizens.”
