The Ministry of Health in Uganda announced, today, Saturday, the detection of two cases of monkeypox virus, bringing the number of cases in the country to four.
"The two new patients have been infected with the subtype 1B," said Henry Mwebisa, the ministry's director general of health services.
The new patients were isolated at a hospital in Entebbe, about 50 kilometres (30 miles) south of the capital, Kampala.
Uganda borders Congo, where the current outbreak began in January 2023.
The World Health Organization has declared the recent outbreak a public health emergency after the new strain was discovered, which appears to spread more easily between people.
