Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani confirmed today, Saturday, that there is a national campaign that the government will launch to support the national team.
A statement by the Prime Minister's Media Office received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated that "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani received the delegation of the national football team before leaving the country to enter a training camp to play the first matches of the final qualifiers for the World Cup, which will be held in Basra Stadium on September 5, in the presence of the President of the Iraqi Football Association, Mr. Adnan Darjal, and the Spanish coach, Mr. Jesus Casas."
The statement added that "al-Sudani welcomed the national team players and the coaching staff," indicating that "he was hoping to meet the rest of the players whose professional circumstances with their foreign clubs prevented them from attending."
The Prime Minister stressed that "all the people have hope and ambition for the success of the national team in these qualifiers, as Iraq deserves to be present in the World Cup due to the capabilities, talents and competencies it possesses today that participate in European football leagues, in addition to the distinguished and competent coaching staff that the government has provided with all forms of required support."
He pointed out that "the national team will play the final qualifiers in Iraq after many years since its last match on home soil, which is a strength factor that will help it overcome the qualifiers, and that the public awaits you with what is known about its patriotism and support for the team in all circumstances," noting that "there is a national campaign that the government will launch after the Arbaeen visit in order for all community activities to participate in supporting the team."
Al-Sudani stressed "the importance of this participation, which is a national mission for Iraq, and is an indicator of recovery that confirms the country is moving in the right direction towards development and stability," stressing that "the participation of the national team and its presence in the largest international football event confirms stability and the state's possession of institutions that plan in the sports aspect, given the pivotal role that sports play today in politics, economics, and other areas."
