Energy and Water Minister Walid Fayyad stated on Monday the renewal of Iraqi commitment, both leadership and people, has reaffirmed its support for Lebanon by renewing and extending the agreement to supply Lebanon with heavy fuel oil.

"Iraq has committed to increasing the quantities this month to 125,000 tons instead of 100,000 tons, with the shipment expected to be loaded from Iraq on August 26. We are also implementing an agreement for ‘crude oil' exchange with Iraq to increase quantities, and Iraq has confirmed its commitment," said Fayyad.

He noted, "Yesterday, I contacted Minister Hayyan Abdel Ghani and the Iraqi government, who are eager to expedite this process to provide us with multiple fuel sources rather than relying on just one.”

“The strategic issue during this crisis stems from our reliance on a single source. Diversifying sources is preferable. We have been ready to secure ‘spot cargo' for some time," highlighted Fayyad in the statement.
