All routes leading to the holy city of Karbala are completely guarded, according to a Monday announcement from the Security Media Cell. It was also mentioned that the road over the Fadiliya Bridge helped to reduce the city's traffic jams.
Major General Tahseen al-Khafaji, the cell's leader, stated to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the government and security forces have made great efforts to secure all roads," adding that "the road leading from the southern areas of Baghdad to the Fadiliya bridge is dedicated to transport vehicles."
Noting that "joint operations paid great attention to this road in cooperation with the government effort," he continued, "this road has a positive impact on pilgrims, especially with the high temperatures as it shortens a lot of time for pilgrims heading to Karbala by about an hour."
He emphasized that "there are no blockades to any road heading towards the holy city of Karbala," adding that "the road is open for 24 hours and contributed to reducing the momentum in the Karbala."
