    MOHESR: 126 Iraqi universities in the (webometrics) classification

    The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research confirmed, today, Friday, that 126 Iraqi universities and colleges are in the (webometrics) classification.

    A statement by the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "one hundred and twenty-six Iraqi universities and colleges achieved competitive positions in the (webometrics) global classification in its second edition for the year 2024.".

    The statement added that "the results of the classification showed (www.webometrics.info/en/Asia/Iraq) that thirty thousand university institutions around the world competed, according to the indicators that measure the virtual presence of universities through their websites and indicate the percentage of clarity (50%) and transparency (10%) and the strength and excellence of research (40%).".

     The statement explained that "the current version witnessed a rise in the index of Iraqi universities compared to the previous version, as the University of Baghdad came at the forefront of one hundred and twenty-six universities, followed by the universities of Diyala, Al-Mustansiriya, Mosul, Kufa, Anbar, Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical, Al-Qadisiyah and other Iraqi universities, which were indicated by the official website of the classification affiliated with the Supreme Center for Scientific Research in Spain.".

    It is noteworthy that Iraq ranked first in the Arab world and seventh globally in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2024 in terms of the number of universities participating in the 2024 edition, while Iraqi universities and colleges recorded their increasing competition in other global rankings, including the Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects for the year 2023, in which the University of Baghdad appeared in the specialization of (Dentistry & Oral Sciences), the (QS) ranking, in whose 2025 edition there are five Iraqi universities, the (Scimago) ranking, in which there are forty-seven institutions, the (Greenmetric) ranking, in which the number of Iraqi educational institutions increased to seventy-four universities and colleges, and the (RUR) ranking, in which there are forty-five Iraqi universities.
