Leading a high-level security delegation, Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari arrived at the Fallujah Police Directorate on Thursday to supervise the preparations for handing over security oversight for the city of Fallujah from the Ministry of Defense.
"The undersecretary for police affairs, the security expert, the assistant for operations affairs, several directors in the Ministry of Interior, and his accompanying delegation arrived at the Fallujah Police Directorate at the head of a high-level security delegation and was received by the governor of Anbar," a ministry statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated.
"After the committee tasked with transferring powers has completed all its procedures and carried out several exercises for this purpose, this visit is intended to review and supervise the level of readiness and begin taking over security responsibility," the statement read.
The minister was given "a brief explanation of the level of readiness and its assessment of the Ministry of Defense to Ministry of Interior security responsibility transfer."
