The Iraqi National Olympic Committee received today, Thursday, an official invitation from the International Federation of the Games for the participation of the Iraqi Muay Thai team in the Olympic Games to be held in Paris.
The head of the Iraqi Muay Thai Federation, Mustafa Jabbar Alak, said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The International Olympic Committee received the invitation to the Muay Thai Federation to participate in the Olympic Games that will be held in the French capital, Paris, during the period from July 26 to August 11.".
Alak added that "the participation will be a demonstration as part of the successive steps to adopt Muay Thai as part of the Olympic program for the upcoming Olympic Games, with a scenario similar to the Taekwondo Federation scenario in the eighties of the last century," noting that "the demonstration races will start during the period from August 4 to 7.".
He explained that "Iraq will participate in the Paris Olympics with two promising players, Ali Al-Kanani and Akram Manahi, as they have a rich and wonderful record in Arab, Asian and international competitions, as they have achieved many accomplishments.".
Alak appreciated "the follow-up of the head of the Iraqi Olympic Committee, Aqil Muftan, and his keenness to support champions and athletes and provide the requirements for preparation and ideal care to raise the Iraqi flag in all forums."
