The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammad Shia Al-Sudani, affirmed today, Wednesday, his rejection of the Turkish incursion into Iraq, while directing that a delegation headed by the National Security Advisor be sent to the Kurdistan region of Iraq in order to check the general situation and come up with a unified position.
The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasool, said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): that “Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, chaired a meeting of the National Security Council today, Wednesday. The meeting discussed key security issues and updates, as well as the agenda items, resulting in the necessary decisions and directives.
The National Security Council addressed the issue of interventions and violations by Turkish forces in the shared border areas, affirming the rejection of Turkish military incursions and the infringement on Iraqi territories. The council emphasized that Turkey must adhere to the principles of good neighborliness and diplomatically engage with the Iraqi government for any security-related matters.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani directed the dispatch of a delegation headed by the National Security Advisor to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to assess the general situation and develop a unified stance on this matter, which concerns Iraqi sovereignty.
The council called on all parties and national forces to support the government's position on this issue, reiterating Iraq's stance based on the constitution and law, which prohibits any aggression on its territories or using Iraqi lands as a base for attacks on neighboring countries.
The council also reviewed other items on its agenda and made the necessary decisions regarding them.
