The Health Ministry today announced that it recorded the first case of West Nile fever in the occupied West Bank governorate of Jenin.
The Ministry said in a press release that its doctors detected suspicious symptoms of West Nile fever and confirmed the case upon conducting the necessary tests.
It explained that West Nile fever is transmitted by infected mosquitoes and has flu-like symptoms, and that the elderly are the most susceptible to this disease.
It stressed that frequent raids by Israeli occupation forces into Jenin governorate, among other cities, and subsequent destruction of water pipeline networks and sewage networks have led to the proliferation of mosquitoes, particularly in Jenin governorate.
