President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid praised today, Thursday, the positive relationship between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region.
The media department of the Presidency of the Republic said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid hosted a meeting at the Baghdad Palace that included the President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Masoud Barzani, in the presence of a number of leaders of political forces."
The statement added, "The President of the Republic held a bilateral meeting with Masoud Barzani, during which he welcomed his visit to Baghdad and its importance in strengthening constructive dialogue between all national forces to consolidate security and stability, expressing his hope that it would produce results that serve all Iraqis."
He pointed out that "during the meeting, the importance of effective and serious dialogue between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region was emphasized in resolving outstanding issues by the constitution and the law and in a manner that guarantees the rights of all citizens and ensures a decent life for them."
The statement continued, "The importance of strengthening the national ranks was emphasized to consolidate security and stability, ensure the safety of citizens, and focus on improving living and service conditions."
The statement continued, "After that, the President of the Republic hosted a meeting that included Massoud Barzani in the presence of a number of leaders of political forces, where the President praised the positive relationship between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region and its development, expressing his hope to resolve all pending issues, especially those related to the financial budget and the enactment of a detailed oil and gas law and the implementation of Article 140 of the Constitution."
President Rashid pointed out - according to the statement - "the importance of coordination and consultation between political forces on national issues, such as the decision on whether or not the international coalition forces will remain, as well as the UN Security Council's decision to end the mission of the United Nations team (UNAMI) in Iraq and draw up the relationship between Iraq and the United Nations, in addition to the file of foreign relations, security breaches and actions that violate Iraq's sovereignty."
The statement confirmed that "Barzani, for his part, expressed his thanks to the President of the Republic for the warm reception," noting that "his visit to Baghdad aims to strengthen the bonds of relationship and cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government and resolve pending issues in a manner that serves all citizens."
Barzani pointed out, according to the statement, that "the relationship between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region is positive and moving in the right direction, stressing the Kurdistan Region's support for consolidating security and stability in the country and joint coordination to resolve all issues in a way that achieves the aspirations of the people."
The statement continued, "The meeting emphasized the importance of meeting national entitlements in electing the new Speaker of the Council of Representatives and strengthening the legislative institution and its important role in enacting laws and oversight."
The statement concluded, "The meeting addressed the general situation in Iraq and its political, economic and social developments, in addition to developments in the region and the world and their impact on the country, as the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination between all political forces and working to consolidate security and stability and improve services provided to citizens was emphasized."
