The Minister of Environment, Nizar Amidi, announced today, Friday, that a major achievement has been achieved by the Iraqi negotiating delegation on climate change.
Amidi said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The Iraqi negotiating delegation on climate change achieved a great achievement, as the Arab negotiating group demanded the inclusion of representatives of the Iraqi delegation in negotiations with other groups during the next climate conference.”
Amidi stressed according to the statement that "this step represents a technical and diplomatic gain for Iraq and a guarantee of local and Arab entitlements, and that the involvement of the Iraqi negotiators reflects the high capabilities demonstrated by the Iraqi negotiating delegation in international forums and the progress achieved in their work."
Aamidi pointed out, "This achievement came as a result of the intensive efforts and hard work of the Iraqi delegation, which proved its worth and efficiency in negotiating with international groups, which prompted the Arab Negotiating Group to demand their inclusion as its representatives in the upcoming negotiations."
Aamidi stated, “This international recognition of Iraq’s negotiating capabilities strengthens Iraq’s position on the international arena and confirms its active role in addressing global environmental and climate issues,” stressing, “the importance of continuing to support environmental and negotiating work by the government and all concerned parties to achieve more successes and gains for Iraq at the local and international levels.”
