The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Seyyed Ali Khamenei, on Monday, announced five days of public mourning for the death of President Ayatollah Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and other officials in a helicopter crash on Sunday night.
In a statement followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Sayyed Ali Khamenei said: “I extend my condolences to the dear Iranian people.”
“We declare 5 days of public mourning for the lives of the victims,” he added.
According to Article 131 of Iran's constitution, a council consisting of the first vice president, the speaker of parliament and the head of the judiciary must prepare the way for the election of a new president.
