President Rashid receives letter from Pope Francis

    President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid received on Tuesday, a letter from his Holiness Pope Francis.

    "President Abdel Latif Jamal Rashid received today a letter of gratitude from His Holiness Pope Francis in response to congratulations on the eleventh anniversary of his papal inauguration in the Vatican City during the reception of the President to the Ambassador of the Vatican City to Iraq, Mitja Leskovar at Baghdad Palace on the occasion of the completion of his mission," stated The Presidency of the Republic in a statement, received by the Iraqi News Agency-INA.
     
    The statement added,“During the meeting, the president praised the bilateral relations between Iraq and the Vatican, and the joint cooperation and coordination to consolidate the foundations of peace, security and stability in the country and the region," stressing "the importance of the Pontiff's efforts in establishing a culture of love, fraternity and peace among nations and peoples."
     
    The President of the Republic conveyed his greetings to His Holiness the Pope, praising "the efforts made by Ambassador Mitja Leskovar during his work in the country.
     
    For his part, the ambassador expressed his thanks and appreciation to the President of the Republic for the support he received during his work in Baghdad. The ambassador also conveyed the Vatican's thanks and appreciation to the President of the Republic for his interest in the affairs of Christians and his keenness to follow up on their situation and work to overcome the obstacles facing them, and his role in consolidating peaceful coexistence between all components of the Iraqi people, stressing "the Pope's keenness to consolidate his relations with Iraq in order to establish peace and stability for all Iraqis.
