The Director-General of the International Labor Organization (ILO), Gilbert F. Houngbo, on Saturday, expressed his thanks to the Iraqi government for hosting the 50th session of the Arab Labor Conference in the capital, Baghdad.
Houngbo said, in his speech during the launch of the activities of the 50th session of the Arab Action Conference in the capital, Baghdad, and followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “We commend the Iraqi government’s interest in the Arab Action Conference and the restoration of its activity in the capital, Baghdad, and we extend our thanks to it for hosting the Arab Action Conference.”
He added, "There are 54 governments, 75 organizations, and 17 regional entities cooperating to empower and achieve social justice and implement business on the ground," stressing "the necessity of continuing to invest in social protection and improving working conditions."
Houngbo pointed out that "the events in Gaza led to the instability of the economic situation in the region," stressing "the need for urgent measures to address the situation in Gaza."
He continued: "We will continue to work to mitigate the effects and conflict in the Gaza Strip, especially with regard to the labor market."
The activities of the Arab Labor Conference (fiftieth session) began on Saturday, mitigate the effects and conflict in the capital, Baghdad, under the patronage and presence of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani.
The session's work will continue, under the auspices of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, and headed by the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Ahmed Al-Asadi, until the fourth of next May.
