Thwarting an attempt to bring prohibited items into Iraq

    The Federal Integrity Commission announced on Friday, that it had thwarted an attempt to bring prohibited items into Iraq, and arrested the employees responsible for that at the Al-Shayb border crossing.
     
    The Commission’s Government Information and Communications Office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “the work team at the Commission’s investigation office in Maysan, which moved to the Al-Shayb border crossing in the governorate, was able, after follow-up, monitoring and investigation, to thwart an attempt to bring in (9) wheels loaded with items prohibited from import, after being seized at the port,” indicating, “(3) accused were arrested, who are members of the wheel inspection committee that granted approval to issue customs permits for items prohibited from being brought into the country.”
     
    The office added, “During the operation, which was carried out based on a judicial memorandum, the original transactions for which customs declarations were issued were seized, and they were presented with the defendants before the judge of the investigative court specialized in looking into integrity cases in Maysan, who in turn decided to arrest the defendants, based on the provisions of Article (340) of the Penal Code.”
