SJC: prison sentences for a drug dealer and a convict of promoting banned Baath Party ideas

    The Supreme Judicial Council( SJC ) announced, on Monday, the issuance of prison sentences against a drug dealer and convicted of  promoting the ideas of the banned Baath Party .


    SJC said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the convict was seized in possession of 8 bags of the narcotic substance methylamphetamine.


    The statement  added that "the sentence was issued based on the provisions of Article 27/ I of the law on Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances No. 50 of 2017 and the indication of articles 47, 48 and 49 of the Penal Code and based on the provisions of Article 132/ 2 of it”.


    “Karkh Criminal Court has issued a simple one-year prison sentence against a convict who promoted the ideas of the banned Baath Party” the statement added.


    "The convict used social media sites to spread and promote the Baath Party and the former regime "the statement added.
     

    The statement pointed out that "the verdict was issued based on the provisions of Article 9 of banning the Baath Party and entities, parties and racist, terrorist and blasphemous activities law and based on the provisions of Article 132/2 of the Penal Code No. 111 of 1969”.
