The Ministry of Migration and Displacement (MOMD) disclosed a comprehensive plan on Tuesday aimed at incentivizing internally displaced persons (IDPs) to return voluntarily to their homes, while concurrently intensifying efforts to close Ashiti Camp situated in the Kurdistan Region.

Khaled Mahjoub, Director of the Migration and Displacement Department in Salah al-Din, disclosed to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "In alignment with the Prime Minister's directives mandating camp closures by July 30th, the ministry has embarked on proactive measures to encourage voluntary repatriation. These measures include a financial grant of 4 million dinars allocated to each family upon departure from the camp, coupled with the provision of essential household electronic appliances."

Furthermore, Mahjoub emphasized, "Transportation arrangements have been facilitated for families aiming to return to their places of origin, complemented by a year-long assistance package and endeavors to facilitate employment opportunities for household members." He underscored "the seamless collaboration between Salah al-Din Governorate and the Provincial Council in bolstering service provisions to these areas, alongside active engagement with international entities."

Mahjoub clarified, " The camps that were closed included Kalar camp in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, accommodating approximately 80 families from Salah al-Din. Additionally, concerted efforts are underway to close Ashiti Camp, housing 1850 families categorized into phases. Notably, the initial phase witnessed the successful return of 98 families, with persistent endeavors directed toward facilitating the repatriation of the remaining families."
