The Security Media Cell-SMC announced on Tuesday, that Iraqi National Intelligence Service-INIS has successfully dismantled an international network using Iraqi territory as a corridor for smuggling drugs to neighboring countries.
SMC stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that, 'In compliance with the directives of the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to pursue drug smuggling networks, INIS has arrested a criminal group consisting of three individuals holding foreign nationalities, affiliated with an international drug smuggling network that utilizes Iraqi territory as a conduit to deliver narcotics to neighboring countries.'
The statement added that, 'The operation was carried out based on qualitative intelligence efforts that revealed the identities of network members operating under the guise of a cargo transportation company to and from IraqوAfter receiving a large shipment of illicit Captagon pills concealed with raw materials for transportation to one of the neighboring countries, they were apprehended red-handed.'
It noted, 'The confiscated narcotics in their possession will be handed over to the judiciary for fair prosecution.'"
