Deputy PM for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul Ghani, announced on Monday, a new marine tanker to enhance the transport of oil to countries around the world.
During his speech during a ceremony held on the occasion of the inauguration of the new tanker, Abdul Ghani noted, “We stand here today in the port of Khor Al-Zubair, to celebrate once again the inauguration of the tanker Sumer,” indicating that, “The new tanker’s load capacity is 32 thousand tons as it is designated for transporting petroleum products. Its length is 184 meters, and its width is 32 meters. A contract was made with a specialized Norwegian international company for this purpose,” according to a statement from the Ministry of Oil received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
"This comes within the plans of the Ministry of Oil to strengthen and develop the role of the national carrier in transporting crude oil and petroleum products to countries around the world," he pointed out, adding "The Ministry is studying the method of partnership with specialized international tanker companies to implement joint commercial transportation projects."
In turn, the Director General of the Iraqi Oil Tanker Company, Ali Qais, stressed: “the importance of strengthening the national carrier fleet within the ministry’s plans with new large and medium tonnage tankers, in addition to concluding cooperation contracts with specialized international companies that contribute to the growth of its role in achieving financial revenues.”
