In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the European Union in Iraq announced on Thursday that a 24-million-euro basic education initiative will soon be launched, with the goal of advancing basic education in the country for four years.

During a celebration of International Women's Day held by the European Union in Iraq, which was attended by an Iraqi News Agency (INA reporter), Ambassador Thomas Sailer of the European Union made the following statement: "We, as representatives of the European Union in Iraq, are committed to international teachings to empower women even in work, companies, the army, the police, and in all departments, which contributes to the economy and we continue to cooperate with the government to remove obstacles." International Women's Day was established 100 years ago to celebrate them and obtain their rights.

In addition to calling for "working together to ensure human and women's rights, as violence against women increased during the Corona pandemic," Sailer emphasized "the need to work together to create teams to empower women and we will continue to access reliable data for women's rights and ensure their implementation and political inclusion."

"We are going to launch the basic education initiative worth 24 million Euros in cooperation with the Ministry of Education to promote basic education in Iraq for 4 years," emphasized the European ambassador to Iraq. "We will launch the program within two or three weeks," the ambassador added, adding that the program's goal is to work with the Iraqi government to create curricula and empower teachers and teaching methods.

He expressed his happiness "to work with the government and Prime Minister Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani," saying that "women's rights and basic education must be included and this concept should be mainstreamed among girls and boys." He also mentioned that "there is currently cooperation with the Supreme Council for Women."
