Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani confirmed today, Saturday, that local governments are the second arm of the government.

The Prime Minister's Media Office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Prime Minister received the former governors, and at the beginning of the meeting, he appreciated their efforts during the previous period in which they managed their governorates.".

Al-Sudani stressed according to the statement that: “the change that comes through the democratic path is evidence of the success of this approach and guarantees the stability of the country and the safety of its citizens,” praising “the process of peaceful transfer of responsibility that took place in the governorates after the formation of their new councils, and in a way that confirms the extent of national responsibility and keenness to commit within the approved constitutional contexts.”.

Al-Sudani pointed out “the importance of local governments, which are the second arm of the government,” indicating that “the relationship between the federal government and local governments is based on striving to serve the citizen and improve the living and economic conditions of the people of the governorates, by supporting infrastructure projects and completing vital projects, which are faltering.” “It was implemented for many reasons, which the government tried to address and remove the obstacles that hindered the progress of work.”
