Interior Minister announces forming Three States Cross-Border Cell as part of Anti-Drug Initiative

    Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari announced, on Saturday, forming a joint cell with Jordan, Lebanon and Syria to combat drugs.

     

    Al-Shammari said during (The sixth edition of the Baghdad International Dialogue Conference(Regional Connectivity- Centrality of Iraq) ), attended by the Iraqi News Agency-INA that," "A meeting was held in Jordan with the participation of Iraq, Syria and Lebanon to discuss countering drug smuggling, as We came up with a series of recommendations, the most important of which was the formation of a joint liaison cell to reduce time and follow up international drug trafficking gangs."

    "There is considerable cooperation as good results have been achieved resulting in the arrest of traders from neighboring countries with the seizure of large quantities of narcotic substances, and control has been activated, " he added.
     
    Interior minister also emphasized that"80 international drug dealers have been sentenced over the past year,” noting that “the ministry operates under Law 50 of 2017, and a comprehensive strategy formulated at the beginning of 2023, spanning three years and encompassing 15 objectives with 24 partners, key initiatives involve reducing supply and demand, establishing "The compulsory rehabilitation centers, and collaborating with international counterparts."
     
    He also affirmed that Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani directed to make Iraq the focal point for the security initiative against drug trafficking.
