Baghdad Crime Control Directorate: 7,796 arrested, including blackmail suspects

    The Baghdad Crime Control Directorate confirmed Wednesday, that 7,796 persons who were wanted from the start of 2023 until yesterday had been caught. 
     
    In a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Major General Khaled Abboud Badai, the director of Baghdad Crime Control Directorate, stated: "The number of defendants arrested since the beginning of 2023 until yesterday is seven thousand and 796 thousand defendants."

     
    He explained, "The number of individuals arrested for murder are 384, while those wanted for the crime of kidnapping reached 99, while the number of wanted for the crime of armed robbery and forced theft 33."   
     
    He added, "2908 were arrested accused of various thefts, while 1550 bicycle thieves were arrested, and women's bags were stolen with a total of 83 individuals ," pointing to "the arrest of 702 counterfeiters."

     
    He pointed out, "the arrest of 97 wanted for the crime of electronic blackmail, and 184 accused of the crime of stealing vehicles and 20 others on charges of human trafficking," noting that "1736 were arrested  for  (rape and sodomy, impersonation, drugs, fraud and tribal conflicts). 
     
     "39 stolen vehicles were seized, in addition to 143 criminal gangs," he said.
