MOHESR: Investing in the international partnership with UNESCO

    The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Naïm Al-Aboudi, stressed the investment of Iraq’s international partnership with UNESCO in the fields of green education, achieving sustainable development goals, and confronting environmental challenges.

    During the opening of the National Conference for Green Education, in the presence of the Acting Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, and a number of MPs, representatives of UNESCO, international organizations, agents, university presidents, and deans of government and private colleges, Al-Aboudi stressed that “Iraq is part of the Global partnership cooperation with UNESCO in the fields of green education, and this stage requires moving towards a future that adopts sustainable work, which must be based on the higher education sector as a vital basis for achieving development goals and uncovering environmental challenges," according to a statement by the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

    The statement included, "The Minister of Education urged Iraqi academic institutions to enhance the fields of scientific research, capacity building, as to enhance awareness and education of the importance of preserving the environment, indicating that this type of interest stems from the tasks and responsibilities of higher education in achieving development goals and devoting serious and persistent efforts to formulating curricula and providing capabilities for scientific and laboratory studies that constitute an integrated road map to undermine future challenges.”

    Acting Speaker of the Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, and Chairman of the Parliamentary Higher Education Committee, Muzahim Al-Khayyat, praised the indicators of scientific development in Iraqi higher education and scientific research institutions, the advancement of global classification platforms, and the achievement of productive partnerships in a green education environment, while the Undersecretary for Scientific Research Affairs and the representative of the UNESCO office gave a presentation on sustainable development paths and the scientific research indicator in this field.
