Iraq Youth team instead of Olympic in WAFF Championship

    INA - BAGHDAD

    The Iraqi Football Federation announced on Monday, that the youth team will participate in the WAFF Championship instead of the Olympic team.

    “The head of the Iraqi Football Federation, Adnan Derjal, met at the Federation’s headquarters with the Youth National team coach, Imad Muhammed, in the presence of the member of the Executive Office, Muhammed Nasser, and the Secretary-General of the Federation, Muhammed Farhan, as the meeting discussed participating in the WAFF Championship, which will be held next month," according to a statement from the Football Association, received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA. 

    Derjal noted, “One of the strategic plans developed by the federation is to expand the base of good players qualified to represent the national team, and to provide all the requirements for success for the national teams.”

    "After the Olympic team declined to take part in the WAFF Championship, we are working to prepare a second team to participate in the tournament under the leadership of Youth Team coach Imad Muhammed," he added.

    He explained, “We are counting a lot on this participation to increase the players’ experience and benefit from the strong confrontations that the team will face in the Championship."

    In turn, the Youth Team coach, Imad Muhammed, pointed out that "participation in the Championship serves our football, and we will work to select a group of good players to represent the team in this Championship.”
