Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani praised, today, Thursday, the performance of the national team in the Asian Cup, while renewing the government’s support for Iraqi sports.
The Prime Minister's Media Office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani received the delegation of our national football team, in the presence of the President of the Iraqi Football Federation, Adnan Darjal, and the national team's coach, Jesus Casas."
At the beginning of the meeting, Al-Sudani welcomed the national team’s delegation and its training staff, and praised “the good performance of the national team’s players in the Asian Championship, which was a source of happiness for all Iraqis, and that football is a game of winning and losing,” thanking the federation and the coaching staff.
The Prime Minister stressed that “this meeting is a message of support for the national team in its upcoming qualifications for the World Cup qualifiers, in which the Iraqis hope to qualify for the finals, and it also constitutes an affirmation of the government’s support for sports in general,” expressing “his pride in having Casas at the head of the national team’s coaching staff, and praising His efforts with the players made us feel that we had a team that differed in its performance from previous years.”
The Prime Minister pointed out that “we saw a great performance by our national team during the Asian Championship and we extend all thanks and gratitude to them and the Football Association, and the behavior that took place in the press conference does not represent the Iraqi media.”
For their part, the President of the Football Association, Adnan Darjal, Coach Casas, and the players, thanked the Prime Minister for his continued support for the team, stressing that they “will be of good faith in the upcoming qualifiers.”
Casas stressed in his speech during the meeting, “I am proud to represent Iraq and i consider myself an Iraqi.”.
In turn, national team goalkeeper Jalal Hassan said, “We offer our thanks for your support and we strive to to make the Iraqis happy in the upcoming qualifiers.”
