The Ministry of Interior confirmed the continuation of its efforts to target criminal gangs that engage in begging on Monday, and it also announced the impending start of significant campaigns to lessen the phenomenon of begging.
Brigadier General Mekdad Al-Mousawi, the ministry's spokesman, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "this year will witness major campaigns to reduce the phenomenon of begging for children or other segments of people." The ministry will "intensify its action regarding the phenomenon of begging during this year."
Al-Mousawi emphasized the need to intensify the work of the police, saying, "We have not stopped pursuing organized crime gangs that practice begging and other gangs, as well as beggars and violators in this aspect."
