Mayor of Baghdad details the capital's metro project

    Mayor of Baghdad, Ammar Musa Kadhim, today, Saturday, revealed new details regarding the capital metro project, which will be implemented on the Karkh and Rusafa sides, and while he confirmed the intention to contract with a consulting company soon to begin with the requirements of the project, he pointed to work to implement projects to solve the problem of traffic congestion in the capital.

    Kadhim told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “Within the government directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, the Baghdad Municipality continues its ongoing work to implement many service projects within the borders of the capital in the water, sanitation, cladding, and green spaces sector.”.

    He added, "The Council of Ministers agreed, among these projects, to include the Baghdad Metro project within the special budget of  Baghdad Municipality, and soon a consulting company will be contracted to begin with the project requirements.".

    Kadhim continued, "Previous contracts for Baghdad Metro have not been cancelled," pointing out that "the project will cover 80% of the capital's area, to be an integrated project on the Karkh and Rusafa sides, and will solve the transportation problem in Baghdad.".

    On the other hand, he pointed out that “the foundation stone has been laid for the Al-Jawahiri City within the boundaries of the municipality, which will solve the housing problem in the capital, in addition to other cities that will see the light, and work will continue in cooperation with other sectoral bodies in light of the support of the Prime Minister,” noting that “the year 2024 will witness Many projects have been completed in the capital.

    Regarding projects to increase green spaces, the mayor of Baghdad confirmed that “the secretariat completed more than 160 gardens within a year of the government’s life and continues to transform barren areas into green.”
