Al-Maliki and the Russian ambassador discuss developments in the political and security situation in Iraq and the region

The head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, discussed with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Iraq, Elbrus Kutrashev, today, Thursday, the latest developments in the political and security situation in Iraq and the region.

The media office of the head of the State of Law coalition said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The head of the State of Law coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, received in his office today the ambassador of the Russian Federation to Iraq, Elbrus Kutrashev.”.

The statement added, "At the beginning of the meeting, Kutrashev presented congratulations, on behalf of the Federal Republic of Russia, to Al-Maliki on the occasion of the successful holding of the provincial council elections and the progress made by the State of Law coalition in them. The latest developments in the political and security situation in Iraq and the region were also discussed.".

Al-Maliki affirmed, according to the statement, "Iraq's commitment to democratic frameworks despite the difficult challenges facing the political process. He continued by saying: We succeeded in holding local elections through which we seek to unify the formation of local governments capable of providing service to the citizen.".

Al-Maliki renewed Iraq's desire to strengthen its relations with all countries of the world and establish economic and development partnerships. 

The statement continued, "The Russian ambassador affirmed his country's desire to develop partnership and cooperation relations with Iraq," expressing his hope "for continued communication in various frameworks and fields to serve the interests of the two friendly peoples."
