Defense Minister Thabit Mohammed Al-Abbasi congratulated the Iraqi people and the valiant Iraqi army on the occasion of the anniversary of the Victory Day over Daesh terrorist gangs.
Al-Abbasi said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "On this day, December 10th, a bright era began in Iraq, after terrorism tried to destroy Iraq and turn it into ruins, as that dark period ended on this day, the biggest myth the world has known in modern times, represented by the terrorist organizations Daesh.
He added that "the heroes in our valiant army, in cooperation with the members of the Anti-Terrorism Service, the Federal Police, the popular and tribal mobilizations, and the peshmerga, were able to eliminate terrorism after they fought the honorable liberation battles and paved the way to victory, to prove once again that the Iraqi is unified."
"The greatest effort that falls on the shoulders of the Armed Forces was to save the lives of innocent civilians who were being used as human shields for these terrorists, and the brave, with high professionalism, were able to achieve victory with minimal losses," he continued.
He went on to say "Today, as we recall these battles, we are well aware that they are historical battles that will be recalled for future generations and will be remembered by the people of Iraq, and the world today praises the people of Iraq and their tremendous efforts to liberate their land and defeat their enemy."
He explained that "with those heroic forces that were fighting hand in hand and were very keen to save civilians, evacuate them and provide support to them, as we remember, with gratitude, the jihadist fatwa of the Supreme Authority, His Eminence Sayyid Al-Sistani, which had a great role in mobilizing people's energies to confront Daesh."
He continued "We also do not forget to thank our friends in the coalition forces, who had a supportive role with Iraq in its just war against terrorist gangs, and we must remember the righteous martyrs, we also extend our sincere thanks to all the wounded heroes who had a big role in achieving victory."
