The Iraqi National Security Service INSS announced, on Tuesday, the arrest of 75 accused of promoting the banned Baath regime.
INSS said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "In order to maintain societal stability and prosecute anyone who tries to create chaos and strife among the people of the homeland, and after conducting monitoring and follow-up and obtaining judicial approvals, the National Security Service detachments were able to arrest (75) people who propagandize the defunct regime and glorify the dissolved Baath Party after publishing inciting photos and videos via social networking sites”.
The statement added that "the arrest operation took place in the provinces (Nineveh, Diyala, Anbar, Salah al-Din and Qadisiyah) based on the law banning the dissolved Baath Party No. 32 of 2016".
The statement continued that "the accused have been duly recorded their statements and referred with the seizures to the competent judicial authorities to take the necessary measures against them in accordance with the provisions of the Iraqi constitution from Article (7) first paragraph ".
