Al-Halbousi meet with Serbia's President Aleksandar

    Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi called on  Tuesday, for the return of Iraqi antiquities smuggled in Serbia.

    The media office of the Speaker of Parliament stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “Speaker of Parliament, Muhammad Al-Halbousi, met with the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić."

    The statement explained, "During the meeting, bilateral relations between the two countries were discussed, and cooperation was developed in a number of fields, including education, agriculture, and health, in addition to cooperation at the parliamentary level, activating friendship committees, and exchanging experiences."

    It pointed out, during the meeting, “Parliament support for the Iraqi government in achieving economic partnerships in various sectors and strategic projects,” calling for “more bilateral cooperation in the antiquities file, demanding the return of smuggled Iraqi antiquities seized by Serbian agencies, expressing his appreciation for Serbia’s efforts in this regard  the field."

    For his part, the Serbian President expressed his “thank you for Iraq’s position in supporting Serbia and its sovereignty over all of its territory,” stressing “his country’s readiness to provide support to Iraq and joint work for bilateral cooperation in multiple fields in a way that serves the interests of the two friendly countries."
