Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari announced on Wednesday that the fire in the wedding hall in Hamdaniya was caused by fireworks, which led to the collapse of the building's roof on citizens while pointing to the formation of an investigative committee to determine the circumstances of the incident.
Al-Shammari told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "a large government and parliamentary delegation are present in Al-Hamdaniya district, "indicating that" the wedding hall lacks safety and security specifications.
He added that " the fire in the wedding hall in Al-Hamdaniya was caused by fireworks, which led to the roof burning heavily and collapsing on the citizens".
He pointed out that "the latest statistics recorded by the Directorate of Health in Nineveh Governorate, 93 martyrs and more than 100 injured, as some of the wounded were transferred to Dohuk governorate and some of them to Erbil governorate, and we are currently in the burns department, there are 9 serious cases.
He stressed that " the Ministry of Health is making great efforts to treat and ambulance the injured beyond its capacity, but there is control by Nineveh health," pointing out that "all reinforcements arrived from the capital Baghdad, where an investigative committee was formed to determine the circumstances of the incident, as well as the formation of a joint committee by intelligence, Civil Defense and police.
Al-Shammari promised, "the defaulters that they will get their fair punishment".
