The Ministry of Oil announced today, Saturday, that the production capacity of the Karbala refinery has been raised to 140 thousand barrels per day.
A statement from the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency, said: “The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Refining Affairs, Hamid Younis, and during his attendance at the process of operating a number of complementary production units up to the design capacity, confirmed that the ministry is keen to implement the directives of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs, Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul Ghani, and the program.” The government has decided to operate the refinery at its full design capacity of 140,000 barrels per day.
He stressed, "The last period represented the steps to complete the completion of technical observations, inspection, and evaluation, in preparation for operating and implementing the requirements of the production units," stressing, "Operating the refinery at its full operational production capacity 100% after operating a unit in coordination with the contracting companies.".
The agent pointed out, “the completion of the activities of operating the crushing unit with the catalyst, which aims to produce high-octane gasoline,” explaining that the unit is the first of its kind in Iraq to produce gasoline (gasoline) with an octane number of 96,” stressing, “the refinery’s contribution by covering A large portion of local consumption.”.
The Undersecretary praised “the efforts of workers in the oil sector, the contracting company, the foreign consultant, and all supporting parties.”
