Board of Commissioners approves ballot forms for local elections

     The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) announced on Monday the approval of forms of ballots for local elections. 

    IHEC said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency INA “prime minister Mohammed Shiaa al-Sudani, confirmed his full support for the electoral process and the work of the Independent High Electoral Commission during his meeting with the chairmen of the board of Commissioners, the electoral administration and council members who confirmed efforts to hold local elections on schedule on December 18, 2023. 

    The statement added "the board of Commissioners held several regular and extraordinary sessions to discuss several topics on the agenda, and issued a number of decisions, including the ratification of the model of the national ballot paper allocated to Special Voting voters, and the models of public voting allocated to each of the 15 electoral districts scattered in irregular governorates in a region, taking into account the size of the paper in proportion to the number of electoral lists in each district ."

    It continued ,"The council approved the media campaigns dedicated to distributing the biometric card and the awareness media campaign to educate voters on the voting procedures for the upcoming provincial council elections, as well as extending the period of updating the voter register of the provinces of the Kurdistan region to the end of official work on September 20, which resulted in the registration of (277,024) voters until September 16, and the ratification of the voting system and counting for the elections of the Parliament of the region”. 

    It Stressed that, the board of commissioners decided to put in place a mechanism to ensure the neutrality of the work of its employees from the relatives of the candidates up to the fourth degree on polling day at polling stations and stations, whether working as staff or permanent contracts".
