President Rashid receives the Austrian Foreign Minister and his accompanying delegation

    The President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid met with Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg alongside his delegation, at the Baghdad Palace, the meeting was attended by the Iraqi Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein. 


    A statement from the Presidency of the Republic received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated, "During the opening remarks, the President welcomed the opening of the Austrian Embassy in Iraq. "

    As a result of taking this step, he further stressed," that there would be a positive impact on relations between our two countries and that establishing positive relations and cooperating in areas of common interest would favor the interests of our two countries and peoples alike speaking of the country's general situation, the president  said that Iraq's cities are marked by security and stability." 


    "As part of the government's efforts to further establish security and stability, the ministerial program is being implemented, which focuses on construction, and reconstruction, as well as providing citizens with necessary services," the President added. 

    The President stated that ,"optimal conditions must be provided to businessmen so that they can engage in investments, and it is imperative that investments are sustained and the private sector is supported for the development of infrastructure and higher standards of living in the country as well as rendering better public serves for citizens. President Rashid discussed Iraq's relations with its neighboring countries and the global community."

     President Rashid  remarks were focused on Iraq's crucial role in establishing stability and security in the region and improving understanding among the nations. In his remarks, he praised the efforts made to restore diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran.


     According to the President, Iraq places a high priority on developing good relations with the international community. It is necessary to cooperate and coordinate internationally on the priority issues emphasized, indicating that counterterrorism, economic and trade cooperation are among the most important. 


    Moreover, the two issues need to be coordinated jointly, namely climate change and environmental protection, which are global issues, he underscored. 

    Schellenberg, Austria's Foreign Minister, was delighted to visit Baghdad and meet His Excellency President Rashid. Additionally, he reaffirmed his country's commitment to continuing to support Iraq's security and stability. 
    Moreover, Austria's Foreign Minister added that he had discussed with Iraq's Foreign Minister the reopening of the Austrian embassy in Iraq. 

    It was the first time that he and his delegation of businessmen visited Iraq, and they were informed about positive developments, particularly in the area of promoting security and stability, he said, It is important to coordinate in the areas of climate change, according to the Austrian Foreign Minister. 

    A special emphasis was placed by Schellenberg on his country's desire to cooperate in the area of water management and to take advantage of the expertise and treatments that were applied to the Danube River in order to cope with the water shortage. 

    A special emphasis was placed by President Rashid on the importance of utilizing international experiences in this area, especially since Iraq is experiencing a severe water crisis and lacks legislation that governs the flow of water across borders.
