Prime Minister Muhammed S. Al-Sudani inaugurated on Saturday, the Safwan border crossing with the State of Kuwait, following its extensive rehabilitation based on carefully developed plans.
During his inspection visit to the Safwan border crossing, Prime Minister Al-Sudani toured the facility, learned about its operations and services for travelers, and met with several travelers from the Arab Gulf states. He emphasized the importance of providing necessary facilities for their entry into Iraq, according to a statement by the PM Media Office, received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
The Safwan border crossing covers approximately 291 dunums, and its redesigned layout prioritizes accommodating a larger volume of cargo trucks and vehicles and passengers, up to 1,000 per day. Advanced technology for customs procedures and electronic clearance of goods is employed to enhance customs revenues, reduce processing times, alleviate congestion, and stimulate economic, commercial, and tourism activities between Iraq and the Arab Gulf states.
Al-Sudani also visited several Husseini processions in the vicinity of the port, where he met with their organizers and local residents. He commended their hospitality and warm welcome extended to the pilgrims traveling to the holy city of Karbala to participate in the Arba'een Pilgrimage in commemoration of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him.
