Ministry of Electricity: the prime minister directed to review investment contracts

    The Ministry of electricity confirmed on Friday that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani directed the review of investment contracts.

    The ministry said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency(INA): "the ministry would like to clarify about the reference to the report of the Federal Financial Control Bureau, and what was covered by a number of media outlets, including the Ministry of electricity lost money without using energy.

    It added that" what the report mentioned is a reference to the contracts for the sale and purchase of Energy signed with investment companies ( Tuke or buy), as they were signed in ( 2014, 2015 and 2016 )and government decisions issued by previous governments, and the approval of the Ministerial Energy Council at that time, "stressing that"the government formed a committee to discuss previously concluded contracts.

    It explained that" the current government, since its inception and under the guidance of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, has begun to review these contracts, and the formation of a committee by order of Bureau , headed by Electricity Minister Ziad Ali Fadel, and the membership of a number of advisers and sectoral entities to discuss these previously concluded contracts, and prepare recommendations consistent with preserving the right of the state and public money, indicating that" the formed committee has started several meetings to take the necessary recommendations regarding the guidance.

    According to the statement, the minister of electricity stressed that"the ministry works with transparency and clarity and that all the doors of the ministry and its formations are open to the regulatory, parliamentary and judicial authorities to review previous and current contracts and support their efforts to monitor government performance and preserve public money .
