EU: We appreciate the Iraqi government's commitment to protecting and improving the status of the Yazidi component

The European Union affirmed, today, Thursday, its appreciation for the Iraqi government's commitment to protecting and improving the status of the Yazidi component.

A statement issued by the High Representative on behalf of the European Union, Josep Borrell, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The European Union stands firmly behind the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq, with full respect for its ethnic and religious diversity, and the European Union appreciates the commitment of the Government of Iraq to protect and improve the situation of people belonging to communities in the country, including the Yazidi community.

Borrell called on the government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government to proceed with the implementation of the Sinjar Agreement, and to appoint a mayor for Sinjar, which will pave the way for other provisions of the agreement, including the re-establishment of basic civil services in Sinjar, and with the approval of the federal budget, 2,500 local security personnel can be employed, as follows: stipulated in the agreement, according to the text of the statement.
