The Ministry of foreign affairs on Wednesday welcomed the UN General Assembly resolution to promote dialogue and tolerance between religions and cultures in the face of hate speech.
The ministry said in a statement, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that it "welcomes the decision of the UN General Assembly to promote dialogue and tolerance between religions and cultures in the face of hate speech, which was voted unanimously during the meeting of the UN General Assembly.
The ministry stressed “the need to combat all forms of discrimination, xenophobia and hate speech," calling on "all relevant actors, including states, to increase their efforts to address this phenomenon in line with international human rights law".
"Abuse and contempt for any of the manifestations of beliefs and religions can lead to polarization in societies and cause extreme tensions, which later end up expressing contempt, provoking anger and strife among people and turning differences in concepts into hatred and possibly violence,” it added.
