Sheikh Humam Hamoudi, the head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, confirmed during his meeting with Elbrus Kotrashev, the Russian ambassador to Baghdad, that the Iraqi government is moving towards positive international relations.
A statement to Sheikh Hamoudi's office, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated, "Sheikh Humam Hamoudi, head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, received Elbrus Kotrashev, the Russian ambassador to Baghdad, and they discussed the relations of the two countries and common interests, and strengthening cooperation in light of the great openness that Iraq is witnessing."
He added, "The two parties discussed the developments in the international arena and the agreements witnessed by the countries of the region that effectively contributed to strengthening stability of the region, and finding new balances that would limit Western domination, noting the geopolitical importance of Iraq and its impact on strengthening the stability of the region."
Sheikh Hamoudi expressed, according to the statement, his confidence that the Iraqi government is moving towards positive international relations based on common interests and mutual respect.
