The chairman of the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council, Humam Hammoudi, on Wednesday, praised the move of Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa al-Sudani, to swap crude oil for gas with Iran.
Hamoudi said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "we highly appreciate the wise and courageous step taken by the prime minister to exchange crude oil for gas with the Islamic Republic, to put an end to an intractable problem that has been troubling our people for many years and endure great suffering and disrupt its economic activity, which would save Iraqi money, and free it from the restrictions of the US dollar and foreign dictates.
He expressed his hope that "the government will promote the gas projects announced by the prime minister in a direction that encourages the transition to alternative energy, the inclusion of investment licenses for urban complexes and the installation of solar cells, and urge banks to support citizens with soft loans within this direction".
