Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari stressed on Thursday the imminent start of disarmament measures in Maysan, while stressing the security services to pursue all armed manifestations.

Al-Shammari said during a press conference held in Maysan Governorate, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "We met with the governor of Maysan, the leaders of operations, the police and the sheikhs of the governorate clans, and everyone expressed support for the work of the security services and security forces in following up on criminals, whatever their affiliation."

Al-Shammari stressed "cohesion and cooperation between the heads of the security services and the leaders of police operations and clans in resolving tribal tendencies in the province," noting that "everyone agreed to renounce the armed manifestations that may occur in the city."

He stressed "the need for the security services to take all measures in accordance with the law to follow up armed manifestations."

On cases of electronic extortion, Al-Shammari stressed that "legal measures will be taken against anyone who offends the security services."

He continued, "There are demands for the formation of a committee to resolve tribal disputes, which will be presented to the Prime Minister for the purpose of forming the committee to resolve all disputes," pointing out that "the security situation in Maysan Governorate is stable and there are sporadic incidents."

He stated that "security measures to disarm in the province will begin in the coming days," calling on "citizens to register weapons at the police station."
