The intelligence service dismantles an international network that smuggles antiquities in Babylon

    The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasoul, announced today, Friday, the dismantling of an international network smuggling antiquities in Babylon.

    Major General Rasool said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "based on the directives of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces in following up the elements of organized crime, and based on the tasks assigned to the Iraqi National Intelligence Service in (Babylon) and within the framework of the work exerted to undermine external threats to national security." Based on accurate intelligence information, the heroes of the intelligence service, in coordination with the security services, were able to carry out an operation whereby an international network consisting of (4) people, one of them Arab nationals, smuggling antiquities was dismantled. They seized (3) three manuscripts according to preliminary information, claiming that they were smuggled from one of the museums abroad.

    He added, "This operation took place after great efforts of monitoring, investigation and follow-up operations that lasted for several days, which led to the precise identification of targets until they were caught red-handed in Babil Governorate.".

    He continued: "At a time when the heroes of the apparatus achieve these security gains, they promise the Iraqi people to remain open swords in the face of anyone who tries to harm Iraq's security and stability."
