Deputy Commander of Joint Operations: NMI helps Iraq with 15 strategic goals

    The Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, Lieutenant General Qais Al-Muhammadawi, confirmed on Wednesday, that the NATO mission Iraq (NMI)is helping Iraq with 15 important strategic goals, while indicating that its duties have not changed in the country.

    Al-Muhammadawi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The duties of the NATO mission in Iraq have not changed, and its mission, according to the request of the Iraqi government, is to provide advice and training to empower the Iraqi military sectors."

    He added, "Iraq is destined to rely on itself, benefit from foreign expertise and hold joint exercises, and we still need training and the involvement of students in external courses, and with the passage of time our sectors will be able to rely on themselves."

    He pointed out, "The mission of the NATO mission is especially to assist the Ministry of Defense through 15 important strategic goals, and there may be an expansion towards the Ministry of Interior to train the federal police with regard to internal security within the parameters of the NATO mission in Iraq, according to the request of the Iraqi government."
