MOFA and WB discuss funded projects in Iraq

    INA - BAGHDAD 

    Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Fuad Hussein discussed, with the representative of the World Bank in Iraq, Richard Abdul Nour, the projects funded by the World Bank in Iraq, their completion rates and the obstacles that stand in the way of their implementation.
     
    Hussein met Abdel Nour in the presence of Ahmed Al-Saffar, Minister Plenipotentiary, Head of the Economic Department, Imad Mirza, Advisor, Director of the Minister's Office, Sabir Ahmed First Secretary and Head of the Organizations Department in the Economic Department, said the ministry's spokesman, Ahmed Al-Sahaf, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

    "The two parties discussed projects funded by the World Bank in Iraq, their completion rates, and the obstacles that stand in the way of their implementation," he added.

    He pointed out, "After the minister's question about the World Bank projects implemented in Iraq, Richard replied that there are several projects implemented by the World Bank in Iraq, and their implementation will be in coordination with the Ministries of Planning and Finance. The projects are focused on infrastructure, especially in areas that have been subjected to war operations against terrorism, as the World Bank allocated a community development project with an amount of $300 million to implement projects in all governorates, which will reflect positively on local communities."

    "An amount of $750 million was also allocated for the rehabilitation of bridges and vital projects, of which about $400 million was spent, in addition to that, the World Bank allocated an amount of $210 million for the rehabilitation of the Baghdad Water Project," he included. 

    He noted, "At the end of the meeting, Richard praised the minister for the good reception, expressing the World Bank's aspiration to increase cooperation in the future to serve the public interest. As for his part, the minister stressed the need to strengthen ties between Iraq and the World Bank to implement vital projects in the service of the public interest and work on overcoming the difficulties facing the implementation of these projects."
